We can get lost in our thoughts and whilst this is happening we are not fully experiencing Life. When practising Mindfulness, we consciously direct our awareness to observing the breath, the body, the senses and the mind. By drawing the attention away from our thoughts and feelings we learn to observe them without getting lost. This is something you have to experience for yourself in order to understand, but believe me; it is extremely pleasurable and brings a sense of freedom and joy to life.
